Launch of Sci-Tech Challenge 2015-2016

Brussels, Belgium, 07 September 2015

With the start of the new school year, a new round of the Sci-Tech Challenge has started. From this year, the Sci-Tch Challenge is running in ten European countries. More than 5,000 students will be exposed to information, knowledge, and hands-on experience in the STEM and energy field. ExxonMobil volunteers serve as role models for transferring knowledge about the transversal skills of STEM education to career development in the energy field.

This programme enables young people to:

  • Understand how to bring an idea to life
  • Stimulate young people’s innate innovative abilities and creative ideas
  • Encourage young people to work well in teams in order to solve a real problem
  • Bring young people into contact with employees from ExxonMobil in order to learn more about what companies and organisations do and the challenges they face
  • Give students a learning experience that they would not otherwise have at their age
  • Motivate students to succeed and achieve new things

By helping in developing STEM skills and competences, the Sci-Tech Challenge enable students to:

  • Be able to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of an idea
  • Be able to understand how to make the idea a reality
  • Be able to understand how education and business can work together to promote innovation and creativity as well as motivate and inspire young people
  • Be able to demonstrate how leveraging Europe’s diversity (involving young people from different countries, for example) enhances innovation
  • Be aware of the variety of skills required within an energy company
